HISTORY OF CAPE DUTCH ARCHITECTURE

The architecture style begins with the simple early concave-convex gables known as HOLBOL gables. This was preceded by an handful of convex-convex "cloud-type" gables. Cape Dutch history is followed by a flourishing embellished baroque style. A swing towards rationalism gave rise to a neoclassical style around the beginning of the 1800's.
