CONTEMPORARY STYLE

Beverley Hui Architect interprets the contemporary genre in the belief that planes should create a sense of movement as they overlap and glide past one another. Deep reveals over large expanses of glazing allow for amazing views from the inside, while adding the “wow factor” to the exterior. Good technical knowledge and a deep sense of three dimensional space, are the requirements to design a modern building that makes a strong visual impact.

Clients looking for modern living in clean uncluttered spaces gravitate immediately to the contemporary style. At Beverley Hui Architects we push the boundaries – from bold facades with frameless balustrades, to modernised versions of Cape Dutch Farm style buildings – we are thinking day and night of ways to reinvent the luxury modern house.

DEVON VALLEY EAST SIDE

DEVON VALLEY - EAST ELEVATION. Beams and planes slide and shift over each other in a modern dance of light and shadow. In the distance are the Cape winelands and the design was created to enhance and capitalise on these pristine views. The double storey with flat roof, was designed with gutters not visible on the exterior. That is what allows for the crisp clean lines of striking design.

STELLENBOSCH WORK-FROM-HOME

STELLENBOSCH LUXURY WORK-FROM-HOME. This modern house is carefully lit to bring out the sweeping modern lines of the architectural beams. The timber pergolas and stone cladding add interest. It includes a work from home office that the owner is delighted to take her clients to.

MODERN CAPE DUTCH SYMMETRY

SYMMETRY is an architectural concept that can be used to powerful effect, such as in this modernised version of Cape Dutch architecture. The gables are straight instead of the traditional curly shape, but the rythm and symmetrical placement of the windows about the central axis of symmetry has been maintained creating a striking facade. FRAMELESS BALUSTRADES

FRAMELESS BALUSTRADES are used to great effect to let the structural elements come to the foreground while adding some sparkle to the room.

VAN ZYL RESIDENCE

VAN ZYL RESIDENCE is located on the slopes of Somerset West overlooking the beautiful false Bay. Careful design of deep beams over the windows made the roof disappear while providing shade for the roof terraces.

Reditus Farm - Entertainment Deck

REDITUS FARM - ENTERTAINMENT DECK. The braai room with frameless stacking doors overlooks a huge entertainment deck with splash pool. Timber pergolas soften the look and remind the visitor of the farming activities with grape vines set to grow over them.

MODERN EFFECTS

GLASS ON THE WATER

One of the architect's signature designs concepts is to create intensive expanses of glass and columns right next to the waters edge of a swimming pool or water feature.

MODERN LIGHTING

The clean lines and walls washed with uplighters create an crips elevations for contemporary homes.

DEVON VALLEY CELLARS

The farm building provides for wine and olive cultivation cellars in the basement. The large timber cellar doors and stone cladding, blend with the natural landscaping, while the sweeping modern beams above create contrast.

VAN ZYL KITCHEN

THE KITCHEN was designed to be well lit with natural daylight from the high volume window in the entrance hall. Well finished with the latest trending mosaics in light teal blue, this is a kitchen anyone would want to come home to.

EXPOSED TRUSSES

EXPOSED TRUSSES allow the viewer to see inside the roof, lifting the space and creating interest. The bamboo coutertops and white American shutters finish off this room in keeping with the modern exterior.
