3. MODERN STYLE

4. VICTORIAN

5. TUDOR

A style originating in Germany, the diagonal wooden beams are distinctive and had the original purpose of strengthening the wooden frame. 6. NOTTINGHAM TUDOR

7. ENGLISH COUNTRY

A quintessential residential style, the English country style is typified by steep roofs vertical windows, and in this Africanised example... thatch roof.

8. CAPE DUTCH REVIVAL

Modern interpretations of the Cape Dutch style that harken back to a bygone era, unlike the Cape vernacular style, the curved gable is retained but the thatch roof is usually changed to tiles.

9. CONTEMPORARY

At the cutting edge of modernity... boxlike forms are transformed through twisting stretching or other methods, which may be regarded as the contemporary style. This house was photographed in the prestigeous Olive Estate on the slopes of the Helderberg.

10. CAPE VERNACULAR



The curved gables of the traditional style have been made straight, and other decorative elaborations have been eliminated, while retaining the pitch roof which distinguishes it from modern buildings.

11. TUSCAN



An Italian style with 30 degree pitched roofs typically or warm coloured clay shingles. The walls may be painted mustard or yellow. Windows and doors are typically of timber and varnished to bring the best out of the wood.

12. SPANISH
